Health Informatics Center

Health Informatics Center

The centre plays important role in creating awareness about the uses of state-of-the-art Computational Biology tools/techniques in Life Sciences, Biomedical Science and Biotechnology among medical professionals/faculties/scientists and researchers in the Eastern region of India through national workshops/seminars and hands-on training programs. The centre not only provides services in Bioinformatics data analysis, and interpretation, but also help in development collaborative research works in frontier areas of antimicrobial resistance, genomics, metagenomics, Covid-19, human microbiome, multimorbidity, chronic kidney disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases and drug discovery (targeting membrane transport proteins/GPCRs/other receptors).

Key Areas of Research

  1. Development of novel inhibitors (antiviral therapy) targeting both main protease (Mpro) and the papain-like protease (PLpro) of SARS-CoV-2, key for viral replication
  2. Human microbiome research using amplicon and shotgun metagenomics
  3. Novel biomarkers associated with chronic kidney disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases using micro-array, metagenomics and single-cell genomics
  4. Identification of novel virulence factor in emerging pathogens using high-throughput next-generation sequencing
  5. Dynamics of solute carrier (SLC) transporters associated with metabolic disorders in lipid mimetic bilayers and development of family-specific inhibitors
  6. Multi-OMICS approach to identify hub-genes, pathways and drug targets associated with multi-morbid conditions.
